Antoine Eugene Ernest Buttura
“Seascape, 1880”

Description

Antoine Eugene Ernest Buttura, French (1841-1920). Oil on canvas.

French, born November 29 1841. Died in 1920. Son of Dr. Antoine Buttura, the physician of King Louis-Philippe. From 1861 he studied under Biennourry and Barrisat at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris before moving to the French Riviera where he lived until about 1894. He devoted himself exclusively to painting landscapes and monuments. From 1865 to 1901 he exhibited at the Paris Salon of the Societe des Artistes Francais. Even while he was traveling and painting in Italy and the Middle East he would send paintings for exhibition at the annual Salon.

Few paintings by Buttura come to the market. He is not a speculative artist but a solid, quiet one. The value of his paintings has increased progressively all along during the entire last 100 years. He is a very safe investment. Steady and reliable. The limited market activity shows that owners of Buttura paintings hold on to them for many years.

Signed and dated 1880.
